Ok, so hopefully you've looked through my portfolio and like what you see! You've read all the details, but you still have questions. Questions are great and ensure we're on the same page before your session takes place. Here are some answers to questions you may have, and if there's something you want to know that isn't covered, please click the "LET'S CHAT" link below and send me a message.

Families describe my work as natural, relaxed, playful, "our treasure to enjoy for a lifetime". Genuine images you want to display in your home, on your walls and/or in a custom album the whole family can enjoy.

Following your session you'll receive a generous gallery of images that often tell a story, capturing your family at a moment in time. We'll get some traditional shots where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling, but they'll happen naturally. The rest of your images will be all about capturing family connections, playful moments and personalities.

I'm a natural light, on location photographer and we'll have a chat to choose the perfect location for your session. Newborn sessions take place in your home.

I like to do newborn sessions within the first two weeks of life, however it's absolutely fine if you want to push it out further.

We'll chat about ideas and things to avoid, but most importantly, be comfortable, be yourselves!

I look carefully at each and every image captured during your session and hand select the best images. I'm looking for images that represent me as an artist and that capture your unique family. I guarantee a minimum of 50 images in your gallery (usually there are more!).

I typically book one to three months in advance so it's never too early to get your session scheduled. If you're interested in a newborn session, please inquire while you are pregnant. Baby's already arrived? No problem. I try to leave openings in my schedule for last minute newborn sessions so just get in touch and I'll do my best to schedule something for you.

Pricing varies depending on which session you book. Families invest between $750 and $1,500 for their custom photography and a deposit of $275 is required to secure your session date and time. Payment plans are available, however the full amount must be paid before your digital files and/or products are delivered.

You can e-mail me directly at jo@jobryanphotography.com, via the "Let's chat" tab below, or by clicking on the "Book Your Session" tab at the top of the screen. Once your session is confirmed you'll receive an email with the contract and deposit invoice, both of which can be signed and paid for online. Payment plans are also available - please contact me for details.

Q: What is this going to cost us?

A: That is an excellent question!  And the answer will be different from client to client.  Very generally, those that hire me can expect to budget between $850 and $1600 for their custom photography.   Just click the "contact" link above, and I will be happy to send out a complete price list.

Q: What should we wear to our family session?

A: Check out my article with examples!  I also have a Pinterest board especially for you!  Here it is: click here for family session wardrobe inspiration

Q: I am a high school senior. Will you submit my yearbook picture for me?

A: Yes! Just tell me which one you've chosen and forward the guidelines from your school, along with the deadline, and I’ll take care of it.

Q:  Can you find someone to do my hair and makeup for me?

A: Yes!  I know several wonderful, licensed makeup artists and stylists who can come right to your session and take care of you beautifully.  The add-on fee for that service is around $200, and I will take care of booking her for your session.

Q: What happens if it rains on the day of our outdoor session?

A: In the event of rain during a scheduled outdoor session we will either use my studio or another indoor location, or reschedule for a different date (I build rain days into my shooting schedule). And a few times, I've actually shot IN the rain - so that’s an option, too, if it’s not pouring or storming out!

Q: What if I need to reschedule?

A: Not a problem. I know that people get sick, or emergencies arise. I appreciate 24 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule, and I will find another time for you.

Q: How many pictures do you take?   Do I get to see then all?

A: I take many, many pictures. When I prepare your proofing gallery I narrow them down to the very best ones, at least 35. You will not see blinking shots, outtakes, unedited proofs, or 10 of the same shot. I carefully “polish the gems” when I edit and show you only my best work as a complete gallery - the full story from your session.

Q: Do you do retouching?

A: Yes, it’s included. In addition to my custom hand-edits, I remove blemishes, and do other types of retouching. More involved edits like braces removal will incur an extra charge.

Q: How soon after our session will I be able to see my pictures?

A: Sneak peeks are posted on facebook typically the next day. A password-protected online gallery of your images will be available within two weeks after your session. You will then be able to view your private online gallery and select your favorite images.

Q: How do we order pictures?

A: We can get together for an ordering session and I can show you samples and help you select exactly what you need. You may also place your order online right from your proofing gallery, via the built-in shopping cart.  As soon as payment is made, any digital files you ordered are made available for immediate download.  I put your prints, albums, canvases and other products into production right away.  When everything is ready (7 - 10 days, usually) we will arrange for you to pick up your order, or I can ship smaller items directly to you.

Q. If I buy digital files, do I get copyright?

No.  U.S. copyright law states that I am the sole owner of the images that I create.  Therefore I retain copyright to your pictures, even if you are the subject and paid for them.  But if you buy digital files from me, I provide a print release, meaning you DO get permission to make unlimited numbers of prints, and you can post them online and share them to your heart's content.

This article explains everything you need to know about copyright and digital imagery.

Q: What gear do you use?

A: I only use high-quality gear made for professional photographers.  I have an assortment of tools to accomplish many different visions in my work, and those are:

Canon 5D Mark iv (primary camera body)

Canon 5D Mark iii (backup camera body)

Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS II lens

Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8L IS II lens

Sigma 85 mm f/1.4 ART lens

Canon 50mm f/1.2L lens

Sigma 35 mm f/1.4 ART lens

Lensbaby Velvet 56 lens

Einstein E640 strobe light, various modifiers

Profoto A1 speedlight

Canon 580 EXII speedlight

Q: What do you use for editing?

A: I use both Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

Q: Do you do weddings or engagements?
A: I am not known as a wedding photographer, but once in a great while I do them if a bride and groom feel that my style matches theirs. I love small, intimate weddings, especially. My wedding and engagement portfolio is right here
