THE FRONT STEP PROJECT RYE
I hope you and your family are safe and healthy during this surreal time. It feels like the world has stopped, doesn’t it?
Like so many others I am unable to do what I love right now, which you know for me means capturing families, newborns and kids. Despite the difficulties and frustrations caused by social isolation, I'm reading and hearing about how families are finding more time for connection and joy, spending time together in ways they maybe weren't able to before "The Great Pause". I'm sure these moments are happening in Rye homes right now, and with so many parents working from home and college kids back in the fold, what better time to capture everyone together to document this surreal time in your lives? Last week I heard about Cara Soulia, a photographer from Massachusetts, who came up with the idea of "The Front Steps Project". The project aims to bring communities together (virtually and absolutely with strict social distancing!) in a time when we are isolated, and at the same time raise money for those who are struggling. A few friends reached out suggesting I bring the project to Rye and I've decided to use my camera for a good cause during this surreal time. Photographers all over the world have joined in and are documenting this important time by taking “Front Steps Portraits”. The session is quick (maximum 5 minutes), and takes place in front of your house, on your front steps, porch, yard, etc. I'll be taking images from at least 10 feet away so all of us will be socially responsible and keeping our distance - some of you are familiar with my long lens! I'll take a few quick photos and leave. I physically interact with no one, and touch nothing during these sessions, however we might smile and/or laugh - something we all need right now. After your quick session I'll email you an edited version of your digital portrait – no fees or strings attached. In exchange, I ask you to help support our local businesses by purchasing a gift card, ordering a special take-out meal or case of wine! This is not a typical photo session:
No need to do your hair or try to look your absolute best.
Just be as you are now and who you are now.
Want to stand outside in your pajamas and slippers, kids in mismatched clothes, glass of wine/beer in your hand, wearing your bike/running gear because you're heading off to do some exercise? Sounds good to me!
The aim is to capture the love and connection that is YOUR family right now - just be you! I'll be posting on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtags #frontstepsprojectRye and #thefrontstepsproject and you can follow along here. If you would like to participate click on the form link here and I will reach out to schedule your 5 minute slot, 5:30-7pm April 1st-14th.
Look forward to seeing some of you very soon, at least 10' away!
Thank you and please stay healthy!
